01Engineering requirement
Machine a Kovar laser package housing with seal-face flatness at the ±0.005 mm benchmark and apply gold plating only to defined bonding zones.
02Challenge
Full-surface gold would waste precious metal; masking had to protect the Cu–Ni stack function while leaving plating zones within thickness spec.
03Manufacturing solution
CNC milling against shared datums, copper/nickel strike, then selective gold plating with a masking layout agreed in DFM.
04Inspection
Method: CMM + XRF plating thickness (demo)
Tolerance verified: ±0.005 mm flatness (seal face, demo)
05Outcome
Seal face passed CMM flatness check; plating zones passed thickness verification. (Demo outcome — fabricated for template demonstration.)
