Frequently asked questions
Which material should I choose for a cold plate?
Aluminum 6061 balances weight, machinability and cost for most plates; copper is chosen where heat flux is concentrated on a small footprint. Hybrids — aluminum body with copper base — are common in AI cooling.
Why is Kovar used for laser packages?
Kovar expands at nearly the same rate as borosilicate glass and alumina ceramics, enabling hermetic seals through temperature cycles that would crack aluminum or stainless housings.
